Signature Flatbread's Joint CEO's Win Entrepreneur of the Year Award

On 22 November 2018, Signature Flatbreads’ Joint CEOs Charles and William Eid won the prestigious Entrepreneur of the Year award at Insider’s Central & East Dealmakers Awards. The event celebrates the success of outstanding individual achievements as well as corporate finance firms, banks, funders and others in regions of the UK.

Honeytop Speciality Foods was set up in 1984 by Samir Eid and became the first company to market naan bread and tortilla wraps commercially in the UK. William and Charles Eid, the sons of Samir assumed control of the company in 1984 and 1994 respectively – continuing his aim to bring breads of the world to the UK market. In 2011 Honeytop Speciality Foods was acquired by ARYZTA before in 2015 Signature Flatbreads replaced Honeytop in a Joint Venture between ARYZTA and the Eids. Three years later in 2018 the Eid brothers took back full family ownership after purchasing ARYZTA’s 50% share in the business. Signature Flatbreads supplies flatbreads, such as tortilla wraps, sandwich carriers, pitta and naan bread, to all of the UK’s major retailers and foodservice operators. The company also supplies 30 countries around the world.

Since regaining control of the company, the Eid brothers have invested into the UK business with two additional high capacity production lines in the factory in Dunstable. The factory expansion will also lead to the creation of 100 new jobs between summer 2018 and summer 2019.

At the awards event the brothers were praised for their investment that has increased productivity and will provide jobs. Other contenders for the Entrepreneur of the Year Award were Carl Waters [PLASgran], Dino Forte [Ventrica], Charlotte Jamme [Mia Tui] and Ringo Francis [Zenith Hygiene]. The Eid brothers stood out due to their support to both the economy and the people of Dunstable.

Charles Eid, Joint CEO of Signature Flatbreads, said: “We are delighted to have been recognised in these awards which we share with the outstanding team of people at Signature Flatbreads. We are hugely ambitious, and are excited to build on the strong foundation that the company has in place, capitalising on the market growth and innovation opportunities that exist, and creating more jobs for the local community in the process.”

The award was sponsored by HSBC UK and the event was hosted by Hilton Doubletree in Milton Keynes.
